I did publish my article before the award came through by the way!David Cobboldnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6219646897587177986.post-27904973960211658672011-11-14T18:00:20.293+01:002011-11-14T18:00:20.293+01:00For what it is worth, Gérard Bertrand has just bee...For what it is worth, Gérard Bertrand has just been awarded the title of Best European Winery by Wine Enthusiast.Hervé Lalauhttp://hlalau.skynetblogs.benoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6219646897587177986.post-14139085523346421912011-10-31T22:48:23.181+01:002011-10-31T22:48:23.181+01:00Ooooooh, what a long discussion this could become....Ooooooh, what a long discussion this could become. And I know you have a point, hence my uneasiness about it. The only thing is, these “big” ones, they want us dead. To be honest, I’d be a happier man if they disappeared too. For once, Léon understands Stalin: “une petite purge !”.
By the way, I had Sociando-Mallet 1990 tonight, with an “entrecôte”. A huge wine in every respect and ... I did NOT enjoy it. I will report on it at length, as it puzzles me. I keep you informed on this big disappointment.Luc Charliernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6219646897587177986.post-52641718561909706962011-10-31T07:35:35.262+01:002011-10-31T07:35:35.262+01:00Luc, I am not too sure what you are getting at her...Luc, I am not too sure what you are getting at here, but surely there is room in the wide world of wine for (good) producers of every scale. I do not consider them (wine producers with different scales of production) to be mutually exclusive. On the contrary, they are complementary, as the bigger ones can open up the tastes of a wider range of people to the wines of their area, making way for smaller ones whose distribution and communcation capacities are necessarily more restricted.David Cobboldnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6219646897587177986.post-82347682486991761302011-10-29T11:41:04.643+02:002011-10-29T11:41:04.643+02:00Very painful contribution to read on the blog of s...Very painful contribution to read on the blog of someone I appreciate a lot, amongst other things because of his free thinking. And just for that reason, it is very good he, for one, should post such a note. “Tant pis pour ma gueule » as here, for this time, I belong to the clan of those he violently reviles, vigorously needles at and more generally keeps plaguling!
It is not my habit to comment on colleagues’ production, except when I experience a flash myself. Moreover, I did not share this bottle with you, David. Therefore, no comment.
I visited l’Hospitalet just once, by accident. But the anecdote is worth telling – I think.
One of my best friends used to be responsible for the marketing department of a “big” wine importer and he had been cattered for and accomodated by the Gérard Bertrand people, way back in the winter of 2007, if my memory doesn’t fail me. He gave me a rendez-vous (La Clape is not that far from Narbonne’s sea-side) there, to pick him up. Hence, Queen’s “Sea-side rendez-vous, hoohoo » ....
From there, we made a short trip to Fontjoncouse ... as my friend was desperately in need of overheads. As soon as we had left the “auberge” in the village, we continued our journey along the scenic and dramatic Corbières route, only to stop on the slopes adjacent to the Agly valley where he discovered “real wine”, the same way I had discovered “real ale” during my numerous motorcycle holidays through Britain in the early seventies.
Yes, this is a very partial post ...Luc Charliernoreply@blogger.com
